Detailed description of Laguna Seca Golf Club

Laguna Seca Golf Club, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Monterey, California.

Laguna Seca golf course fitst opened for play in 1970. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones and Robert Trent Jones Jr.

The magnificence of the Monterey Peninsula is reflected in 18 holes that once formed part of a historic California land grant rancho. With typical Jones artistry, this spectacular venue features many elevated tees and a bevy of strategically placed bunkers that guard almost every green. Yes, you will have to play every club in your bag in order to conquer this challenging course that earns its slope rating of 127!

Blue tees: 6,161 yards, par 71, course rating 70.7, slope rating 127.

White tees: 5,739 yards, par 71, course rating 68.9, slope rating 122.

Red tees: 5,739 yards, par 72, course rating 70.8, slope rating 121.

The longest hole on the course is # 15, a par-5 that plays to 548 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 17, a par-3 that plays to 122 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 15, a 548 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 2, a 151 yard par-3.

Don't let this 6,157 yard golf course fool you. Yard-for-yard, it is one of the most exacting layouts in the area. Why? Uphill dogleg holes that require more club on your approach shots and holes, such as the 15th, where water comes into play more than once. On the 17th hole par-3 can you select the right club to avoid five bunkers?

Strategically placed bunkers as well as a number of elevated trees characterize the Laguna Seca Golf Course. With a slope rating of 127, you will most definitely need to make use of every single club in your golf bag in order to face the challenges presented by the Laguna Seca Golf Club. Although the course is only 6,157yards long, yard-for-yard, it prides itself in having one of the most exacting layouts in the entire Monterey and Carmel Valley region. The uphill dogleg holes at this Monterey peninsula golf course require more club use on your approach shots. The challenge of the Laguna Seca golf course will surely add excitement to you Monterey golf package.

The signature hole at this Monterey Peninsula golf course is number 15. This 548-yard, par 5, requires both the tee and approach shots to carry over water. The 5,726-yard men's tee has ladies' course rating of 73.1 and slope rating of 127. On the 17th hole in par-3, you will need to avoid five bunkers. Given that the greens are surrounded by the sand, it behooves the golfer to pick the right iron in order to avoid hitting into the dirt. Proper club selection is needed at hole number 11, where the golfer has to decide whether to drive over the dogleg of forest trees into the birdie position. However, whatever challenges you may face, the beauty of this Monterey peninsula golf course makes it worth the extra effort.

The greens were at best a 5 out of ten. No true roll with different grasses inter-mixed. The bunkers were a 0. There was little to NO DIRT in them. Per the course Superintendent they had only changed 9 of the 18 holes and we were playing in an NCGA event. (are you kidding me) Would not go back even if someone else paid for it.

I almost hated giving this rating...since in MHO is one of the best values in the Monterey area and this rating would only serve to bring more golfers into an uncrowded, pleasureable golf experience. The course is well maintained, the practice areas are the best for a public course, and the clubhouse rocks. You wont leave disappointed!

Condition and ambiance of the courses were excellent. One of my favorite golf courses in the area for the price.

The only real negative on the day I played... The marshal should have made slower players speed up or allow players to play through.

Always an enjoyable course -- challenging enough to be interesting, but not so difficult as to be discouraging. Good location and excellent views. For the money, one of the best deals around.
